NFL Odds Report: Week 1 Picks (Jacksonville Jaguars Over + Cowboys Future Bets)

NFL odds report 8

The NFL season kicks off Thursday night in Chicago and we are breaking down the best week 1 plays and future bets for you this week. Every day on CA Betting News, I will provide at least one sports betting play for the week’s slate of games with my top three picks coming on Friday and top player prop bets on Sunday. Also included during the week on CA Betting News will be suggested plays in the Rams, Chargers, 49ers, and Raiders games. Using the latest odds from FanDuel Sportsbook and DraftKings Sportsbook, here are my betting plays for the day:

Jacksonville Jaguars Week 1 Total Team Points OVER 23.5

FanDuel Sportsbook Odds: Jac OVER 23.5 points (-118)

DraftKings Sportsbook Odds Jac OVER 23.5 points (-122)

A great first week battle will take place between the offensive juggernaut Chiefs and the defensive-minded Jaguars. While the battle between those two sides of the ball will be intense, it’s the other side of the ball I’m most interested in. The Chiefs defense comes into the season with a lot of question marks. The KC defense ranked 31st in the NFL a year ago and gave up 132/yards per game on the ground, a very high number considering many teams were throwing on them more than running because of the score. The Jaguars rushing attack is led by the dangerous Leonard Fournette who figures to be used a lot to try and wear down the Chiefs defense in the suffocating Florida heat, and I believe he will have a lot of success in doing so.

Last year, the Chiefs gave up 23+ points in 11 of their 16 games and gave up 26 points per game total. Obviously, the Jaguars offense had its struggles with Blake Bortles behind center, but enter this game with renewed confidence as Nick Foles leads the attack and has built a great rapport early with Dede Westbrook who figures to be a huge factor (hint: check back Sunday for a big Westbrook prop bet). The Jaguars defense should give the offense opportunities despite them playing the most dangerous offense in the NFL. This has the makings of a lot of points and also feel an upset could be in order. I love the Jaguars scoring 24+ points here on that Chiefs defense.

Dallas Cowboys OVER 9 wins in 2019

FanDuel Sportsbook Odds: Cowboys OVER 9 wins (+102)

DraftKings Sportsbook Odds: Cowboys OVER 9 wins (+105)

The Dallas Cowboys ended the 2018 campaign going 7-1 over their last 8 games and then beat the Seahawks in the wild card round of the playoffs. Their season ended in Los Angeles where they came up just short of the Rams in the divisional round, losing 24-22. Given their end of season success, the Cowboys enter this season with a lot of confidence and figure to be a major factor in preventing the Eagles from winning the division.

The Cowboys have the benefit of playing in the NFC East where they get to play the Giants and the Redskins twice per year. They also get the AFC East, which means match-ups against the Dolphins, Jets, and Bills. An easier schedule in a wide open NFC gives the Cowboys a great opportunity to challenge for the conference. Despite the distraction of Ezekiel Elliot holding out, the deal will get done and Elliot should be on the field soon, giving the offense plenty of production. Even without Elliot, Tony Pollard has impressed the team in training camp and figures to carry the torch just fine should Elliot miss time. The team is led by Dak Prescott and figures to get a lot of production from Amari Cooper and emerging wideout Michael Gallup. Getting to 9 wins shouldn’t be a problem for Dallas as long as they stay healthy this season. Nine wins gets you a push, but I think they go even higher than that and challenge for the division. I like Dallas OVER 9 wins.

Prediction: Cowboys 11-5
