Week 2 is set to kickoff Thursday night in Charlotte, and in the meantime, I will continue to provide my top plays for you here on CA Betting News. Last week, I went 8-6 against the spread, including a big parlay win on Monday night and 2-1 in my top plays. I’ve already picked the Patriots -18.5 and provide you with my second pick below. During the NFL betting season, we will break down at least one game a day with my 3 top plays coming Fridays, one being a California team. Here is one of my plays this week using the latest odds from FanDuel Sportsbook and DraftKings Sportsbook.
Chicago Bears at Denver Broncos 1H UNDER 20
FanDuel Sportsbook Odds: 1H Under 20.5 (-110)
DraftKings Sportsbook Odds: 1H Under 20 (-110)
Two teams disappointed with their week 1 performances will bang heads in Denver on Sunday afternoon as the Bears go on the road to take on the Broncos. The story with both these teams is their defense, particularly the Bears, who held the Packers offense to just 10 points last Thursday night. The Broncos defense had some more struggles, but settled down after quickly giving up 14 points to Oakland on Monday night. The Broncos are led on defense by pro-bowl linebacker Von Miller who will go up against one of the NFL’s top linebackers in Khalil Mack.
The concern going in is the offenses. Both teams had problems putting up points in their week 1 contests and are going up against teams with solid defenses. Both teams scored just 3 points in their first halves last week. The Broncos are trying to still break-in Joe Flacco with the rest of the offense while the Bears are concerned about the progression of Mitchell Trubisky. Reading between the lines, Bears head coach Matt Nagy will try harder to stick with the running game and get it going early on, which should speed up the game. The bottom line here is the slow start of both teams gives me reason to believe this first half point total of 20 points is going to be tough to get to. I’ll take the under in first half points, but I do believe the offenses will come alive in the second half.
Prediction: Halftime score Bears 10, Broncos 6
Green Bay Packers OVER 23.5 points vs. Vikings
FanDuel Sportsbook Odds: Packers OVER 23.5 points (-108)
DraftKings Sportsbook Odds: Packers OVER 23.5 points (-103)
The Packers come home after a huge win against Chicago on opening, outlasting the Bears in a defensive battle on the road. They will face another strong defense in the Vikings, although not to the level of the Bears. Aaron Rodgers at home is a different animal than on the road, and he has had success scoring points on the Vikings in recent years. Going back to 2013, when healthy, Rodgers and the Packers have scored 24+ on the Vikings in seven of their last nine games, and if we go back prior to 2013, it only gets more impressive. Rodgers has had a lot of success against Minnesota at Lambeau Field, and this year he is fully healthy and operating under a stronger defense able to get him the ball more.
The Vikings undoubtedly had a great opening week performance at home against Atlanta, but have a much tougher battle this week on the road in Green Bay. Their defense will be tested. This should be a great game with points scored, but the Packers have the offense to at least get 24 on the board. I’ll take the Packers OVER 23.5 points.
Prediction: Packers 31, Vikings 24
