Here is our next breakdown of the divisional round using the latest odds from FanDuel Sportsbook and DraftKing Sportsbook.
Houston Texans @ Kansas City Chiefs UNDER 52
FanDuel Sportsbook Odds: Hou-KC UNDER 52
DraftKings Sportsbook Odds:Hou-KC UNDER 51
Earlier this year, the Texans pulled off an upset win in Kansas City, defeating the Chiefs 31-24 in Arrowhead. Since that game, though, a lot has changed. For one, Patrick Mahomes has gotten healthy. While he played in that game, he was hobbling on a bad ankle and had a lack of weapons as Tyreek Hill and Sammy Watkins were also out. Secondly, the Chiefs defense has gotten better. After a difficult start to the season defensively, the Chiefs have turned it around. Over their final six games, the Chiefs held their opponents to an average of 12 points per game and only allowed one game where they gave up 20 points or more, a 31-21 win over Los Angeles.
Houston has been a hard team to figure out this year. They, along with Minnesota, have mystified me as to what to expect. There are times where Deshaun Watson looks like an all-pro, and other times where he looks average. Their running game has been inconsistent this season, with games where Carlos Hyde breaks out and others where he is shut down. With cold weather in place, both teams big play abilities should be limited some. For a playoff game, 51 points is a very high number. We mentioned last week how none of the games went over their totals and only one game had a 40-point or higher total. I lean Houston in this game in that I think they can hang around and keep this game close, although I don’t expect them to win. The Chiefs should have enough success to exploit the Texans average pass defense but this game should stay under the high total.
Prediction: Chiefs 27, Texans 20
